Mammillaria plumosa, commonly known as the "Feather Cactus" is a charming and distinctive species of cactus native to Mexico. It is a popular choice among cactus enthusiasts due to its unique appearance and relatively easy care requirements.
Mammillaria plumosa is known for its striking, feathery appearance. The cactus consists of multiple small, spherical stems that cluster together, creating a dense, pom-pom-like effect.
The stems are covered in fine, white or golden spines, giving the cactus a soft and fluffy appearance. These spines can appear almost like feathers, which is how it gets its common name, "Feather Cactus."
In the spring, Mammillaria plumosa may produce small, pink or white flowers that emerge from the top of the stems. These flowers add to the plant's overall charm.
Mammillaria plumosa prefers warm temperatures between 70°F to 100°F (21°C to 38°C) during the growing season. Protect it from freezing conditions, as it is not cold-hardy.
Mammillaria plumosa is a delightful and visually appealing addition to any collection of cacti and succulents. Its unique, feathery appearance and relatively easy care make it a great choice for both beginners and experienced cactus enthusiasts.
