Copiapoa tenuissima monstrose 'Major Form' is an exceptionally rare collector's clone prized for its dramatic monstrose growth, sculptural stems, and ever-changing appearance. Unlike the typical species, this remarkable form develops irregular, knobby growth with thick, contorted offsets that create a truly one-of-a-kind specimen. Slow growing and highly sought after, it is considered one of the premier monstrose Copiapoa cultivars for advanced collectors.

Native Habitat:
This monstrose form is a cultivated selection of Copiapoa tenuissima, a species native to the hyper-arid Atacama Desert of northern Chile. In habitat, the species grows on rocky coastal hillsides and decomposed granite soils, where it survives on minimal rainfall supplemented by moisture from coastal fog (camanchaca).

Flowering Information:
Mature specimens produce small, satiny yellow flowers from the crown during late spring through summer. While flowering is less frequent than in typical plants due to the monstrose growth habit, established specimens may bloom regularly under ideal conditions.

Soil Type:
Requires an exceptionally fast-draining mineral cactus mix consisting of pumice, decomposed granite, coarse sand, crushed rock, and gravel with very little organic matter. Excellent drainage is essential, as the species is highly susceptible to root rot in overly moist conditions.

Hardiness:
USDA Zones 9–11. Protect from prolonged frost and temperatures below 30°F (-1°C). During winter dormancy, keep plants nearly dry to replicate their naturally arid environment.

Light Requirements:
Thrives in bright light to full sun. In extremely hot inland climates, light afternoon shade may help prevent stress, while strong light encourages compact growth, attractive glaucous coloration, and healthy spine development.

Propagation:
Primarily propagated through vegetative cuttings or grafting to preserve its unique monstrose characteristics, as seed-grown plants will not reliably produce the same growth form. Own-root specimens are especially prized by collectors for their natural appearance and long-term stability.
