Senecio rowleyanus, commonly known as "String of Pearls" or "String of Beads," is a charming and popular succulent plant with a distinctive trailing growth habit. Native to South Africa, this plant is loved for its unique appearance and ease of care.
Senecio rowleyanus gets its common names, "String of Pearls" and "String of Beads," from its long, slender stems that resemble a string of small, round beads or pearls.
The leaves of this succulent are modified into small, spherical, bead-like structures that are usually a bright green color. They can vary in size but typically range from pea-sized to marble-sized.
When grown in optimal conditions and with proper care, this plant may produce tiny, fragrant, white flowers that resemble daisies. However, flowering is relatively rare when grown as a houseplant.
Senecio rowleyanus prefers bright, indirect sunlight or partial shade. Avoid exposing it to intense, direct sunlight, especially during the hottest part of the day.
String of Pearls is a favorite among succulent enthusiasts and is often grown in hanging baskets, containers, or as a trailing plant in succulent gardens. Its unique, bead-like appearance and ease of care make it a lovely addition to any indoor or outdoor succulent collection.
